Yesterday Forbes revealed that REITs own more than 1,600 properties in the
areas affected by Sandy .
What’s worse yet, though, is that six REITs have 50% or more of their portfolio
in the devastated NYC metro area.
In fact, one REIT, Alexander’s Inc.(ALX) has 100% of its primarily retail portfolio there.
The lesson to be learned: Make sure the REITs you invest in are geographically well diversified.
